One of the things I miss most about Mexico is the ease with which I could buy handmade products. I remember going shopping with my mom as little girl very well. We could find all sorts of hand embroidered fabrics such as napkins, tablecloths, towels, linens, bedding, and of course, my dresses I wore as a little girl virtually on every corner.
I also remember that setting up the table in my house for a nice dinner was an event that took almost the whole morning. We had to choose the tablecloths, napkins, plates, cutlery and flowers to get the perfect combination. And, well, living far away makes me miss these traditions even more.
Now thanks to Mariana Barrán and her incredible products from Hibiscus Linens, I can now get embroidered and hand-sewn linens I missed so much in Houston.
Thanks to her mom and conservative schooling, Mariana discovered her passion for sewing in her hometown of Monterrey, Mexico. After years of studying Human Resources and completing a master's degree in Australia, she got married and decided to take her passion to the next level.
At HibicusLinens.com you’ll find two collections available. The first collection consists of bathroom towels, baby clothing, tablecloths and napkins all handmade and embroidered by Mariana. This collection is only available in white because Mariana truly believes that color is timeless, easy to clean and will stay in the family for generations.
The second collection, “Give Back to Mexico,” consists of imported Mexican products made by the Otomí natives. The collection aims to help native families economically and encourage more artisans to learn the Otomí’s unique embroidery, painting and loom weaving techniques. In this collection you’ll find tablecloths, runners, tablemats, pillows and duvet covers in the traditional vibrant colors and also in neutral colors such as beige and gray.
Thanks Hibiscus Linens for bringing a little piece of Mexico that Yo Mariana has missed so much. It’s nice to have products made by our dear Mexican natives here in Houston. And, I love the dedication and determination Mariana puts in each product she offers.
