Spanish Schoolhouse: The Best Start for Bilingual Kids Proud of Their Roots
/Discover the school that supports your mission to raise bicultural children with a loving and unique approach.
Being a mom far from your home country is a one-of-a-kind journey: exciting, challenging, and deeply rewarding. And if you're here, chances are you share my desire to raise bilingual kids who are proud of where they come from.
When you're a mom away from home, you face all the same fears as any first-time mom... and then some. One of the biggest? Figuring out how to make sure your children not only speak Spanish, but truly understand and embrace your culture as their own. From day one, our family’s mission has been not just to be bilingual, but bicultural. We wanted our kids to move between two languages and two cultures with ease and pride.
Almost without realizing it, I started surrounding myself with other moms who shared this same vision. In the afternoons, we’d organize Spanish playdates so our kids could feel part of a community that spoke their language, especially since they spent their mornings fully immersed in English.
Why is bilingual preschool education so important?
For a long time, I dreamed of a school that would support this mission from an early age. A school that understood language is just one part of culture. That’s exactly what I found in Spanish Schoolhouse, a school that left me truly impressed with how they introduce children to Hispanic culture from a global perspective, celebrating the richness of different Spanish-speaking countries.
Meet Verónica Rojo, a passionate Latin-hearted director
I had the chance to visit the Spanish Schoolhouse campus in Sugar Land and meet its director, Verónica Rojo. Born in Venezuela, Verónica lived in Mexico before moving to the U.S. with her family in 2011. She holds a degree in Business Administration and has years of experience in the healthcare sector before joining Spanish Schoolhouse in 2018.
She started as an office administrator, moved up to assistant director, and now proudly leads the Sugar Land campus. Verónica knows that bilingualism is a powerful tool for building bridges between cultures, and you can feel her passion as she shares her roots with Spanish Schoolhouse families. She and her team work every day to build a strong and joyful learning foundation for each student.
What makes Spanish Schoolhouse so special?
With over 25 years of experience, Spanish Schoolhouse is the largest Spanish immersion preschool program in Texas, with campuses throughout Houston and Dallas and a brand-new one opening soon in Cypress.
I loved seeing how each classroom is named after a different Spanish-speaking country, how happy the kids are while learning in Spanish, and how they’re also taught in English to be more than ready for Elementary school. In fact, the academic level is so high that many kids transition ahead of the curve.
What surprised me most was learning that most students come from American families who value Spanish as a powerful tool for their children’s future, professionally and culturally. If they value it so much, we as Latino parents have even more reason to preserve our language and culture at home.
Where to find the schools and how to enroll
Spanish Schoolhouse has campuses across Houston and Dallas and is opening a new one soon in Cypress. They also offer summer programs, perfect for keeping the language alive during school breaks.
