Houston Restaurant Weeks 2015

The 5 Restaurants you can't miss during Houston Restaurant Weeks 2015.

I'm so happy to be back in Houston after a long summer vacation and what a better way to celebrate my return than by feasting during Houston Restaurant Weeks 2015.

This event is organized every year with two purposes. The first one is to help the Houston Food bank, by donating a part of the proceeds from each dinner to this noble cause. The second one is to offer the culinary community in Houston a chance to try new restaurants or go back to their favorite ones, by creating special menus for this event at more accessible prices and with the dishes that these places are known for.

So don’t wait any longer and start making your reservations, there’s only a few weeks left and a lot of places to try. This great event lasts until September the 7th.

The number one place in my list is Peska Seafood Culture.

What separates Peska from all the other Seafood Restaurants, is the incredible variety of products they offer. Their philosophy is to have always available at least one product from each of the seven seas.

My favorite dishes were so many, that I couldn’t choose just one, so here are a few of them:

Soft Shell Crab Tacos. A true explosion of flavors. The Soft Shell Crab comes battered and is drizzled with a soy and lime sauce and comes in a perfect homemade flour tortilla.

Branzino in Sea Salt. This delicious and delicate Mediterranean fish comes completely covered in coarse salt and then is filleted and cleaned by an expert tableside.

Sea Urchin. This was the first time I tried it and it was definitely an interesting experience. Its texture was a bit viscous and its flavor was a mixture of sea and iodine that's hard to describe and that you will need to try for yourselves.

The service was amazing thanks to Cristal Garcia who showed us she had a great knowledge about the menu, about the history of the restaurant and had a great vocation for service and knew perfectly how to make the diner feel special. We had an amazing time.

Here's the rest of my list:

1. Peska

2. Caracol

3. Artisans

4. Brasserie 19

5. Brasserie Max and Julie
